GLOWING GREEN

I’ve stumbled across a few amazing Podcasts in the last 6 months. I’m really into Podcasts as I commute an hour to and from work every day, and I find it a really easy way to soak in some extra Health & Fitness knowledge without having to be in a class! Plus, I feel like I’m actually doing something interesting with my commute and using my brain!

One of my favourite newest additions is Kimberly Snyder’s Beauty Inside Out which I listen to through iTunes.
She has such a bubbly personality and I learn SO much from her episodes. I love her so much that I have recently purchased her book The Beauty Detox Solution which I will be reading once I finish my current book. I’ve also started to incorporate some of her theories and tips into my every day life, one of these being drinking her ‘Glowing Green Smoothie’ every morning. In our busy lives it can be hard to eat as many veggies as we should, so I have found this is a super easy and yummy way to incorporate over 3 cups of nutritious greens. Plus, it’s cleansing and alkalising…the perfect way to wake up our digestive systems slowly over the course of the morning.
Ongoing cleansing is a critical way to reach your highest potential of health and beauty. The Glowing Green Smoothie retains all of the fiber of the greens and fruit, rather than removing it. In nature, vegetables and fruit are found with both their fiber and juice intact, and we can’t improve on nature. Fiber is critical for ongoing cleansing by sweeping out toxins on a regular basis, helping to keep your digestive tract and body clean, and also keeping you more full so that you tent to eat less heavier and/or acidic foods throughout the day.

INGREDIENTS:
1 handful kale
1 handful baby spinach
4 stems celery
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
1/2 a banana
1/2 a green apple
1/2 a pear
Coconut water or water to your desired consistency
(As an added bonus I also add in a teaspoon of Macca Powder and 1/2 a teaspoon of my Golden Turmeric Paste for their anti-inflammatory and adaptogen properties to balance out my hormones and stress levels. You can read more about adaptogens in my blog post here…)

METHOD:
I add all ingredients into my Thermomix and blend for 30 seconds on speed 6 and 15 seconds on speed 9. Then pour into a large cup or glass waterbottle
You can store in the fridge, but keep covered and consume within at least 3 days or the fibre and nutrients will die off.

You don’t need to add the Macca Powder or Turmeric Paste if you don’t want to. Kimberly doesn’t suggest it, I have just started doing it as an easy way to add it into my mornings. Macca is also easy to add sprinkled on top of oats, fruit salad and yoghurt or any protein shakes
